It was my birthday recently and I gotta say, it's great to have a three-year-old in the house when you celebrate your birthday. I was wished “happy birthday” all weekend, got sung “happy birthday” to several times and was encouraged to indulge in all kinds of birthday treats. If only we could get that enthusiastic about our birthdays rather than considering them as just a reminder that we are getting older. One of the things my daughter insisted that we do that I happily went along with is make birthday cookies. Sounds like the beginning of a wonderful new tradition to me. And she insisted that they be chocolate (I must be doing something right!). 1 3/4 cups flour |

In a medium bowl, add together the flour, cocoa and baking soda. In a large saucepan over very low heat, melt 1 cup of the chocolate chips and the butter. Stir until completely smooth. Remove from heat and add in the sweetened condensed milk, egg and vanilla. Mix well and then add in the dry ingredient mixture. Mix well. Add in the remaining 1 cup chocolate chips and the pecans. Drop by teaspoons onto cookie sheets and bake in a 350 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
